Snorkeling the Red Sea: shooting fishes with a budget camera (tried&tested)
We love snorkeling and our favorite place to hit the waters is the Red Sea in Egypt, one of the best places in the world to explore the underwater world. Taking pictures is part of the snorkeling fun, but do you always need a an expensive camera gear to get the job done? We tried a Olympus Though, and this is how the small budget camera surprised us.
The Red Sea is famous for its great snorkeling and diving spots, and some of them are really easy accessible. When we can, we stay at Three Corners Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort in Marsa Alam, a luxury hotel with a beautiful private reef as fantastic bonus, good for some relaxed Red Sea snorkeling.
The pictures below were taken with a simple Olympus Though TG-320, a budget underwater camera made for snorkeling and other sporty activities. It’s really great fun to hunt our fishy friends for the perfect shot, and most of the fish are curious and make great models.
True, the pictures aren’t always sharp: shutter speed is a bit slow and the fish swim fast, not the best combination but practice makes perfect, I guess. Of course there are better underwater camera’s on the market, but this Though camera doesn’t break the bank (ours was 119 euro), it has some interesting features (like a 3D-modus) and it’s easy to use. If you want to take snapshots from your snorkeling adventures without spending too much money, then this one is your underwater friend.
Fantastic photos. Those fishes look like they were posing, how did you get them to do that? Hehe!
Your pictures look amazing! Didn’t know the red sea looks this stunning.. i heard it’s a great diving spot, but never did my research. Time for me to visit Egypt 🙂
That fishy looks like he’s smiling haha, nice photos! So clear!
Tx! 🙂
